Tofer Chin
Terminal 7, Ticketing Lobby
Los Angeles is an expansive, complicated and grand city, with diverse neighborhoods and seemingly endless landscapes. At sunset the spirit of Los Angeles shifts as the city’s iconic, atmospheric light changes and becomes filled with deep reds, oranges, and pinks. For many, these dramatic sunsets produce a feeling of euphoric inspiration. This optimistic energy is a symbol for what drives the dreamers and doers of Los Angeles. This site-specific mural celebrates the city’s dynamic possibilities by reflecting these moments when we can pause and connect with our surroundings before we continue through our day.
Tofer Chin’s work encompasses paintings, sculpture, large-scale public murals, and installations that challenge perspective through conventional concepts of form, color and scale. His practice encourages viewers to further their understanding of their physical surroundings by reflecting on one’s internal architecture of thoughts and emotions.
Chin has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally, including in Australia, Germany, Spain, Brazil, China, and United Arab Emirates. He has produced public art commissions nationally and overseas in Brazil, Nicaragua, and Japan. Chin, a recipient of the California Community Foundation 2019 Fellowship for Visual Artists, received his BFA from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles.
