AIRPORT POLICE SERGEANTS GRADUATE FROM SHERMAN BLOCK SUPERVISORY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

(Los Angeles, California – February 12, 2014) Five Los Angeles Airport Police Sergeants recently graduated from the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SBSLI). Sergeants Troye Holmes, a 24-year veteran of the Airport Police Division; Martha Hall with 22 years of service; Robert Richardson with 30 years; and Marlo Richardson and Anthony Boisselle, both with 15 years on the force; each completed the intensive leadership development program and participated in commencement ceremonies.
“This leadership training opportunity is the perfect forum to help develop the skillsets of our line-level supervisors, giving them the tools needed to interact with and mentor other officers on the Airport Police force,” Airport Police Chief Patrick Gannon said.
Sergeants Holmes, Hall, R. Richardson, M. Richardson and Boisselle were presented their graduation certificate by representatives from the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training board, on various dates and in different locations over the past several months, with the final graduation ceremony taking place on February 7.
SBSLI provides a forum for personal growth and development of the qualities necessary for effective public safety leadership by teaching leadership and ethical decision-making skills to front-line supervisors. The curriculum teaches students management and leadership through inspiring, challenging and developing, while providing insight on how each discipline compliments the other. The program was designed and implemented in 1988 through the efforts of California law enforcement professionals and top educators and trainers.
SBSLI classes consist of 192 hours of course study during an eight month time period. Among the course participants were a diverse group of professionals from public entities, which included the California District Attorney’s Office.
It is the mission of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) to continually enhance the professionalism of California law enforcement serving its communities. It is also the goal of the Airport Police Division to consistently provide training opportunities to all sergeants over an extended time period.
The Los Angeles Airport Police Division is the Nation's premier aviation law enforcement agency with over 1,100 specially trained police officers, security officers, and civilian staff protecting Los Angeles International, Ontario International, and Van Nuys airports.
