(Los Angeles, California – March 25, 2014) In October 2013, Assembly Bill 128 was approved by the California State legislature and signed by Governor Jerry Brown.  The legislation gives Los Angeles Airport Police Officers the same policing powers as municipal law enforcement agencies like the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Los Angeles Port Police and Los Angeles Police Department.

Los Angeles World Airport Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) and Los Angeles Police Commissioners have now met and approved a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to fulfill the requirements of AB 128. This MOA gives the Airport Commission the ability to ask the LA Police Commission's Inspector General to conduct audits of some airport police functions. These audits will be for the sole use of the Airport Commission.
The approval of this MOA was the last condition necessary to meet the requirements of AB 128.    The passage of this important legislation was a direct result of broad based support received from labor and management and especially from State Assembly Member Steven Bradford, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles World Airports Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey, the Los Angeles Airport Police Officers Association and many law enforcement leaders.
The Los Angeles Airport Police Division is the nation's premier aviation law-enforcement agency with over 1,100 specially trained police officers, security officers, and civilian staff protecting Los Angeles International, LA/Ontario International, and Van Nuys airports.
