MULTI-AGENCY LAW ENFORCEMENT OPERATION AT LAX ENHANCES PUBLIC SAFETY FOR USERS OF GROUND TRANSPORTATION

(Los Angeles, California – April 29, 2015) The Los Angeles Airport Police Motor and Commercial Enforcement Units in conjunction with the California Highway Patrol, the California Public Utilities Commission (PUC) and the LAX Airport Operations Ground Transportation Section hosted the annual Multi-agency Commercial Enforcement Task Force. This multi-agency law enforcement operation is conducted to enhance the safety of the general public who use commercial ground transportation to and from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
Each agency was tasked with conducting the most appropriate course of action ranging from warnings, citations, impounds, license revocation or arrests. The focus was on proper driver and vehicle licenses, transponders, airport operating permits and proper commercial insurance.
During the operation, a total of 392 vehicles were inspected, and 27 drivers were issued Personal Service Citations for misdemeanor violations and infractions which included serious mechanical problems, unlicensed drivers, and invalid or no PUC permits. Another 47 drivers were issued administrative citations for minor equipment violations, and improper, incomplete or missing documentation. Fines for these citations vary, and the drivers must show proof of correction before they can resume for-hire operations.
The inspections were done simultaneously at three locations: LAX’s Limousine Holding Lot (Jenny Street, just south of Westchester Parkway), LAX Parking Lot F (Avion Drive just south of Century Boulevard) and the Upper / Departures Level on the east end of Terminal 7.
“This operation promotes voluntary compliance with the laws and regulations governing commercial vehicles within the state of California and reminds those who operate at LAX, we will continue our enforcement efforts to keep riders safe,” said Los Angeles Airport Police Chief Patrick Gannon.
The Los Angeles Airport Police Division is the Nation's premier aviation law enforcement agency with more than 1,100 specially trained police officers, security officers, and civilian staff protecting Los Angeles International, LA/Ontario International and Van Nuys airports.
