JUSTICE FOR MURDERED CHILDREN ORGANIZATION HONORS LOS ANGELES AIRPORT POLICE CHIEF PATRICK GANNON

(Los Angeles, California – October 31, 2013) Los Angeles Airport Police Chief Patrick Gannon will be honored with the Angel Award by the Justice For Murdered Children (JFMC) organization during a four-day Festival and Carnival in San Pedro. Chief Gannon is being honored for the role he played in supporting the organization while a member of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
The presentation will take place on Friday, November 1, beginning at 6 p.m. during a candlelight vigil on the second day of the festival, which will be held at the Ports O’ Call Village. Guest speakers include State Assemblyman Isadore Hall III and Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer.
The mission of JFMC is to reduce the number of homicides, the number of unsolved homicides, and to assist those families that have lost loved ones to homicide. The organization was founded in 1996 by LaWanda Hawkins following the murder of her only child, Reggie; and other parents who had lost children in the same manner. During that time, Chief Gannon was LAPD Deputy Chief, Operations-South Bureau, which served 800,000 residents from South Los Angeles to Wilmington and San Pedro.
Hawkins said, “Chief Gannon is being honored because of his efforts above and beyond the call of duty to help assist the families in finding those responsible for the deaths of their children.”
Chief Gannon said, “I am honored to be a part of such a passionate cause involving murdered victims and their families. Serving the community is our responsibility and we take it very seriously.” Other law enforcement officials will also be honored at this event.
The Los Angeles Airport Police Division is the Nation's premier aviation law enforcement agency with over 1,100 specially trained police officers, security officers, and civilian staff protecting Los Angeles International, LA/Ontario International, and Van Nuys airports.
