Employment Process

All LAWA employees must go through a very competitive process which includes written and oral examinations, interviews, and the ability to pass several thorough background checks.

Most positions require candidates to follow the City of Los Angeles Civil Service process listed below:

 

  1. Examination bulletin is open for applications
  2. Submit On-line Application
  3. Applications are reviewed and the most qualified applicants are selected for testing
  4. Qualified applicants will be invited to take a written and/or oral exam
  5. Pass the exam and score high enough to be interviewed
  6. Candidates who pass will be placed on an eligibility list
  7. LAWA will interview from among those on the eligibility list
  8. If selected, candidate must serve a probationary period
  9. Once employee passes probation, employee has civil service protection
