(Los Angeles, California – September 13, 2017) Today, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially confirmed that Los Angeles will host the 2028 Summer Games. Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), which is in the midst of $14 billion in infrastructure improvements and capital investments, stands ready to serve as the gateway to athletes, staff, and fans.

“Los Angeles World Airports is thrilled that Los Angeles will host the 2028 Olympic Summer Games, and we look forward to welcoming the international community of Olympians and fans, who will experience our new front door to the City – a re-imagined and modernized LAX,” said Deborah Flint, CEO of LAWA. “Just like our Olympic athletes, LAX and VNY are reaching for gold, and with significant investment, our airports will be worthy of Olympic athletes, and all who travel to, from and through Los Angeles.”

In honor of the Olympic Committee meeting in Lima, Peru, and the official announcement that Los Angeles will host the 2028 Summer Games, LAX will light its iconic gateway pylons tonight in the colors of LA 2028. Additionally, CEO Flint will be on hand to welcome back Mayor Eric Garcetti, LA 2028 Chairman Casey Wasserman, and other members of the LA 2028 bid committee, as they return to Los Angeles tomorrow evening.

Modernization at LAX includes the construction of an automated people mover (APM), a consolidated rental car center, terminal improvements and the construction of additional gates at Tom Bradley International Terminal.  In coordination with the work that is being done by the City of Los Angeles and Metro, by 2023 visitors will be able to experience LAX in a whole new way, with reduced congestion, new public transportation options, and modernized terminals.
