LAX, LACCD, and 30 Students Begin First Day of HireLAX Apprentice Readiness Program

LAX, LA COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT, AND LA/OC BUILDING TRADES LEADERSHIP JOIN 30 HIRELAX STUDENTS TO CELEBRATE FIRST DAY OF THE APPRENTICESHIP READINESS PROGRAM; STUDENTS TO SHARE STORIES AND HOPES FOR THE PROGRAM
WHAT:
HireLAX Apprenticeship Readiness Program, a collaboration of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), Los Angeles Southwest College, the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council, will begin its first day of class by welcoming the program’s first 30 students. Students will be welcomed by a speaker panel that includes LAWA Chief Executive Officer Deborah Flint, LACCD Chancellor Francisco C. Rodriguez, Los Angeles Trade-Tech President Laurence B. Frank, and select student speakers.The HireLAX program is a workforce development program that will prepare local residents for skilled craft labor careers to support the multi-billion capital improvement program at LAX. The curriculum includes trade education, as well as physical education and life coaching. The 30 students were chosen from a pool of over 100 initial orientation attendees, reflecting a broad cross section of Angelenos, including women, homeless, and formerly incarcerated individuals.
