Gateways Program

Out of an abundance of caution LAWA has taken steps to reduce our costs where appropriate, including a hiring freeze on the Gateway Internship Program. Please visit our main LAX Community Relations page for updates on our ongoing activities and programs.

Los Angeles World Airports’ Gateways Program is specifically designed to open doors and create career paths into the aviation industry for local high school and college students. The program provides students with valuable exposure to aviation-related careers, and gain significant real-world work experience opportunities. The Gateways Program has two options for students which are determined by the student’s eligibility:

The Gateways College Internship Program is a paid internship program that was developed to provide supplemental support for the current and projected increased workload demand at Los Angeles World Airports. Student Professional Workers are hired on a part-time basis to help gain valuable work experience and also provide future career opportunities with the City of Los Angeles.

The Gateways Student Volunteer Program provides students an opportunity to volunteer in various divisions at LAX and Van Nuys offices based on their career interests. Students also have the opportunity to volunteer for the Federal Aviation Administration in the Human Resources and Air Traffic Controller offices.
